Easy Fruit and Vegetable Wash

Today, we thought we would give you a quick recipe that we make every week or so to wash our fruit and vegetables! I know this is not the most exciting recipe we have done, but....

Everyone knows you’re supposed to wash your fruits and vegetables before eating them, but how important is it really?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says washing your produce under running water can prevent you from becoming infected with food-borne illnesses like norovirus, which is the country’s leading cause of disease outbreaks from contaminated foods. Eating organic veggies significantly reduces your intake of pesticides and chemicals, but even though you are buying organic, you still need to wash your produce. Just because vegetables are grown organically does not mean that they are clean; they do grow in dirt.

Ingredients:

- 1/4 cup white vinegar

- 2 tablespoon lemon juice

- 2 cups tap water

How to:

Mix these ingredients together (I just shake it in the spray bottle) and allow enough time for the chemical reaction to happen. Prior to chopping, eating, or prepping any fruits and vegetables, spray them with the mixture. Let it sit on the produce for a minute or two. Then, rinse off thoroughly and ENJOY!
