After a short hiatus...

Wow! What a year it has been. With all that happened in 2020 and the beginning of 2021, we had to take a bit of a break to focus on our mental, emotional, and physical health. Who knew living in a pandemic could be so stressful?!

With all three of our vaccines each and a sense of "light at the end of the tunnel," we are bringing back Wellness Made EC with a continued focus on our total body, mind, and spiritual health. I can not think of a more important time to take care of our bodies from the inside out.

Because it has been a while, we wanted to re-share our values and "big rocks" - the things we consider most important here at Wellness Made EC.

Nutrition and Clean Eating -

  • Food is medicine. What we eat matters. Food is not only energy, it is information to our genes and metabolic systems.

  • We want you to eat whole foods. As little as possible the foods that have been processed or refined. We want food that is free from additives or artificial substances.

  • Eat as organic as much as possible. Look at the EWG (Environmental Working Group) website They have a great list they put out every year called the "Dirty Dozen/Clean Fifteen."

  • Hydrate! A good general formula is to take your weight in pounds and divide it by two. That is the number of ounces you should minimally take in each day. Preferably, you can count water, sparkling water or decaffeinated teas.

Exercise and Moving -

  • It is so important to move that body. Get out there and do something - a walk, trot, skip, jog - whatever that looks like for you. If you don't use it, you will lose it.

  • Find something you enjoy. The best exercise is the one that we will do. Do you like to dance, walk, or hike? Explore and find what makes you feel good!

Sleeping and Resting -

  • Sleep is so important. It is when we heal, restore, and repair. Ongoing sleep deficiency is linked to an increased risk of heart disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and stroke. It is also linked to higher body weight and decreased productivity. That has got to make you want to work on you sleep health!

  • Look over our past post and we will revisit this in the future.

Handling Stress -

Stress does the same thing that sleep deprivation does to the body. We are all going to have some stress in our life. We have to learn to handle and manage it.

Forming relationships and connections with others -
  • People need people! I know that sound simplistic, but if the past 18 months have taught us anything; they have taught us that. We need connection with others and community.

This is all blocking and tackling, one baby step at a time! Remember, it is a process. Don't aim for perfection, just keep moving forward.

Let this be our focus for the rest of 2021 heading into 2022. Making small advances forward in these areas will positively impact your life and health - one way or another. More on that to come!

All material gathered and researched through my amazing fellowship program, The Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine.

I was so glad to see this in my inbox today! Just what I needed to help motivate me to get back on track. Exercise in for the day, now if I could just conquer that clean eating!
