how to (not) stress in the midst of a global pandemic

Let's be honest here. Everyone is going to have stress during this time. The key is how to process and handle the stress in a effective, productive, healthy way. Remember, we all have stress in our life. It is more how we percive the stress that gets to us, than the stress itself. If only we can wish all the anxiety and stress away, but a girl can dream!

This is the first time in over 100 years that a pandemic has occurred in the world. We are feeling so much insecurity for the future and the unknown. It is a novel virus which means it is new and not much was known about it. We feel out of control.

That is all true, but there are things we can do in our own little sphere of influence. Wear a mask to protect other people, physicial distance, and wash our hands. Stress, especially chronic stress, is horrible for the immune system. Do the things YOU CAN CONTROL.

1) Eat clean - real food, not processed

2) Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables

3) Exercise and move your body

4) Get plenty of sleep

5) Build those relationships you have. Call friends, Facetime and smile at your neighbor even if you both have a mask on, they can see it in your eyes. We need each other.

We can still live and laugh!!

Do I still have anxiety and get stressed at times? Of course I do! I have an Integrative Medicine practice, but currently am primarily an Emergency Medicine physician (on the frontlines during a pandemic). I HAVE to have talks with myself and my close friends FREQUENTLY and remind myself of all of the above. Give yourself grace and just remember to take the next right step. We are all in this together!
